The Final Edition

Say it isn’t so! Only 5 days left of Kindergarten! Time does fly when you are having fun…and having fun learning. This week the children worked hard to celebrate their moms and what a celebration it was! We played a card game called Top It, used the digi-blocks to create BIG numbers and solved a math problem called “Going to the Park”. We had a hat fashion show to display our wonderful creations and we made (and ate) sculptures from Cheetos!

Thank you to Claire’s family for corn dogs and fries from Cheesy Jane’s for a lunch to celebrate Miss Claire’s August birthday. This yummy lunch was topped off with yogurt parfaits.

We will kick off our last week with Water Day (aka Mud Day!) on Monday. Your child should come to school in a bathing suit and cover up or clothes they can get wet in, with sunscreen on and wearing water shoes or ones you don’t mind getting wet and dirty. Please send a towel clearly marked with hisher name. Be prepared for a wet and muddy kid to hop in your car - you should have extra towels on hand. We will hose the children off before handing them over!! This is an Acorn-favorite day! We will begin our day in the room, do calendar, and head outside around 10:00 a.m.

The rest of our week will be spent reading, writing and remembering!! This is an emotional week for children, parents AND teachers. We will try to keep our routine as normal as possible, yet at the same time take a “walk down memory lane”. We will share our favorite things about kindergarten – maybe even some of our not so favorite things, too!

Encourage your child to share hisher feelings about school ending and the new beginnings just around the corner. As adults, we need (yes, it is hard!) to keep a handle on our emotions, too! This will help your child to be able to deal more calmly with this big week.

Thank you for sharing your precious children with us this year. Thank you for your commitment to them and us - that’s what makes The Acorn the place it is..... we will miss you all but will look forward to hearing about what the future brings to you and your little one. Have a wonderful summer and stay in touch!

Mark your calendar:

Mon., May 14 Mud Day on the playground
Thurs., May 17 Music ProgramKindergarten Certificates Handed Out - 1:00 p.m.
Your child is free to go with you at the completion of the program.
Fri., May 20 Last Day of School ( a day for children and teachers to celebrate our year together!)
May 21 &22 Parent-Teacher Conferences: Schedule is posted on our door.

12 years from now: High School Senior Reunion for Acorn students!!!! Mark
A Saturday in your calendars!
Early May, TBA

Point to Ponder:
If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together.....there is something you must remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart....I’ll always be with you. ~ Winnie the Pooh

Dramatic Play: Housekeeping

Bible Story: Lois and Eunice Taught Timothy (2 Timothy 1:1-7)

This week as we hear about Timothy learning Bible stories from his mom and grandma we will review the Bible stories we've learned this year.

Monday: Our day will begin indoors. The cars will be unloaded from the Kindergarten porch.

Water Day: Please send your child to school wearing a bathing suite, t-shirt, and waterproof shoes. PLEASE SEND 2 TOWELS (labeled with names). We will save one of the towels to sit on in the car. The last part of the day (2:15 - pickup) will be spent outside on the playground doing FUN wet stuff with the four day pm and five year old classes. Shoes must be worn at all times. Old tennis shoes and water shoes are preferred. Flip flops and crocs are not recommended.

Wednesday: Show and Tell - The children are asked to bring only one item for Show and Tell. Items of theri choice are acceptable with a few exceptions. Toy weapons, i.e. guns, knives, swords, lasers, etc., are inappropriate for Show and Tell since we don't play with those items at school If a pet is show and tell, please make arrangements with Diana in advance.

Spanish and Music on Wednesday: this will be Lana and Sandy's last day this school year.

Friday: Last day of school. Our last day will be as routinely normal as possible so we can enjoy playing with our friends.

Have a great summer, Little Lambs!

We know the time is winding down when next year’s kinder-kids come to visit. It was neat to see last year’s visitors grow into this year’s confident tour guides. They all seemed to remember when they came to visit - especially if they were shy! The kindergarteners glowed with enthusiasm and joy! They are the best ambassadors!

When we weren’t giving tours, we were getting ready for our special day with our moms next week. Shhhh - don’t tell! We explored subtraction playing subtraction trains, reviewed telling time, worked with a friend to collect 15 objects and shook hexahedrons (dice!) to see how many number stories we could make for one number.

We have opened THE WOW HAT FACTORY in dramatic play. Each child has their own paper hat to embellish! There is a lot of stuff to use at this factory!! We have buttons, beads, feathers, fiesta flowers, streamers.....and it goes on! Each child has hisher own cubby for that hat and we don’t share hats no matter how beautiful they are!

The kinder-kids will be preparing lunch for their moms on Wednesday, May 9. Our menu: pasta salad, croissants, fruit kabobs and lemonade. At 11:30 half the group will eat lunch and half the group will do a short Spanish program with Miss Sandy. At 12:00, we will switch groups. Please plan to arrive promptly at 11:30! When both groups have had lunch, we will gather for a Mother’s Day surprise! When that concludes, your child is free to leave with you!

Thank You: We graciously thank the following people:
-Our museum drivers: Stefanie Alvheim, Natalie Matthews, Riley Forner and Jill Raike
-The Treuhaft family provided a pizza lunch for us after our field trip - yummy!
-The Forner family donated a collection of books that will be perfect for Kinder!

On Thursday, May 10, Claire will celebrate her birthday with a pizza lunch!
