Kindergarten News 12/7/18

December 07, 2018
By The Kindergarten Team

Public speaking skills are being honed, the stage is set, the props in place, and the costumes are fitted. This week we have had a lot of fun preparing for our play. With great success we put on our first, full costume dress rehearsal for the Hummingbirds. The kinder kids were bit by the acting bug, as they beamed when the audience erupted in applause. We are learning that with practice we get better and better… A good lesson for practicing anything we need to learn! Our actors are learning their lines, stage positions, and important director cues.  We will continue to do performances for the other Acorn classes, then parents are invited to see us perform on Wednesday, December 19 at 12:15 pm. We will do two performances with a brief intermission in between, for a costume change.  Your child can go home with you after the second performance.

This week, we have also learned about another holiday tradition.  Shoshana’s dad, Daniel, came to share his family’s tradition of Hanukah. We learned about the lighting of the menorah, had fun playing the dreidel game, and ate challah bread...Delicious! Thank you for sharing!

In art with Ms Sudie, we learned about creating the effect of “illumination” in our artwork. Inspired by author/artist Chris Van Allsburg’s Polar Express, we created a multi-media work that gives the illusion of light!  Also, with a little help from Ms. Sudie, we have been busy working on wonderful holiday surprises and we are hoping you have been thinking about the fun surprise your child will be making for a special friend here at school, as part of our Secret Pal gift exchange!

The kinder class has enjoyed bringing in their coin donations and sharing what they did to earn it.  What a great time of the year to think about ways to help others with “random acts of kindness!” As a member of families and our class community, we learn that it is important to be kind to others ALL the time. But as part of the season of giving, it is nice to earn a contribution for doing a job or two that will help make life easier for family and classmates! Each small coin, when combined with others, adds up to a donation that will help a local charity here in San Antonio, and is a visual representation of all the good we can do in this world!

We need 14 brown shopping bags from Central Market/Whole Foods/Trader Joes. If you shop at any of these stores, please save and send them in.

Reminder: Please remind your child to bring their tote bags each day to school, and don’t forget to check inside and return homework folders in on Mondays.
