ROAD WORK ALONG AVENUE B: The City of San Antonio has informed us of a sidewalk installation along Avenue B on the Brackenridge Park side of the street. The work is scheduled to start next week. This could at times impact our drop off and pick up procedure.
Paraphrasing from their email: The sidewalk to be installed is going to run along the west (park) side of the street, from the existing sidewalk ramp at the corner of Ave B and E. Mulberry, between the fence line and the parking spots there across from Kiddie Park and then continuing down the street, behind all of those trees and through the bamboo forest until it connects with the sidewalks being installed at the Witte Parking garage. Due to property corner restraints and existing utility poles and such, we will NOT be able to install a sidewalk on the east (business) side of Ave B. If everything works out the way we envision, the driveway to the school should not the impacted as the construction crews will be well within the park property on the other side of the street. There may be an instance when we have a concrete truck that is right up against that little fence line but the contractor will have a flagger there to help direct traffic. Regardless, I am confident we can work around the drop off and pick up times.
We have informed those in charge of the project of our Christmas Vacation dates; ideally the work right behind the school will be done then while we are closed, but no promises. If we hear of any more details affecting each day’s traffic, we will let you know. Thank you for your patience. When it is complete, it will be very nice to have the sidewalk available to pedestrians!
Elf Louise Toy Project: We are getting a head start on the season of giving this year to accommodate our favorite San Antonio Elf’s delivery schedule! Once again, all the classes will collect toys for the Elf Louise Project. This wonderful community service project is particularly dear to us since Elf Louise is an Acorn parent whose son Christopher graduated from The Acorn in the late 80’s. We encourage you to help your child select at least one “like new” toy in very good condition from home that he/she has outgrown or no longer uses, or bring a new purchased toy, to give to a less fortunate child that otherwise might not receive a Christmas present. The “Elves” have stipulated only new stuffed toys be shared, as one previously loved cannot be cleaned properly. We will accept items up through Friday, December 14th.

Our first Coffee with the Directors was a great success! We had some nice discussions about screen time, social interactions and making friends, guidance techniques, and other parent topics. We all enjoyed this informal, friendly get-together. Here is a link to an excellent article regarding SCREEN TIME. We highly recommend the book Glow Kids, by Dr. Nicholas Kardaras. We have a number of copies in our parent library available for check out. We will announce our next date and time soon!
Please mark your child’s outerwear: With changing weather patterns, we ask that you mark all of your child’s jackets, sweaters, etc. with their name, so we can make sure they go home with the right person. Thanks
