Our school is more than a place where children learn. The Acorn is a community built by all of us—children, teachers, staff, and families. As an independent school, we depend on the active participation of our families to help create the experiences, traditions, and opportunities that make The Acorn special.
When you join The Acorn, you are joining a community—not simply enrolling your child in a school. Family participation in volunteering, school events, and fundraising is an important part of being an Acorn family.
We know every family has different schedules, talents, and resources, so participation will look different from family to family. What we ask is simple: show up, pitch in, and help make our community stronger.
Why Family Participation Matters
Independent schools are different because they are built by their communities. At The Acorn, our teachers and staff provide the heart of our educational program, but our families — past and present — help make the larger community possible.
When parents and friends volunteer, organize an event, participate in a fundraiser, or contribute a special skill, children see their grown-ups investing in their school. They see people working together, helping one another, and taking responsibility for something they care about.
That is the kind of community we want our children to grow up in.

Support through Fundraising
Tuition covers the core cost of providing our educational program, but it does not cover every investment required to strengthen and sustain our school. Fundraising helps bridge that gap, allowing us to invest in our classrooms, campuses, outdoor spaces, special experiences, school traditions, and the continued growth of The Acorn and Tall Oaks.
Every family benefits from the generosity of the community that came before them. Family participation in fundraising helps ensure that the families who come after us can benefit from the same strong foundation—and an even stronger school.

Throughout the school year, families will have opportunities to participate in our two major fundraising efforts — our fall semester Rummage Sale and spring semester Wine Night Silent Auction — that provide essential support for The Acorn’s programs, teachers, learning experiences, and continued growth.
Community Fundraising in Action: The Acorn Rummage Sale
Our annual Rummage Sale is more than a fundraiser—it's a wonderful example of what happens when our community works together. Families donate items, sort and price, set up tables, help during the sale, and spread the word. One family's extra clothing or household items becomes another family's treasure, while the proceeds come back to support The Acorn.
It takes many hands to make an event like this successful, and that's exactly what being part of a small independent school community looks like.
